Alexander Egger (born December 22, 1979 in Bozen , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian ice hockey player who spent large parts of his career at HC Bozen .
Career
Alexander Egger began his career at HC Bozen , for which he played until 2005 and with whom he became Italian champion for the first time in 2000 . In summer 2005 he signed a contract with league competitor Ritten Sport , where he stormed for a total of three seasons. In 2008 the native of Bolzano returned to the provincial capital of Bolzano and immediately became champion and cup winner for the first time in his comeback season . From 2010 he was team captain of the South Tyroleans, with whom he again won the Italian title in 2012. In 2012 he and his team also won the Supercoppa . In the 2010/11 season he was the top scorer among the defensive players in the league. In the same year, as in the 2012/13 season, he was named the best goal setter among defenders. In 2013 he moved to the Austrian ice hockey league with Bolzano and was the first non-Austrian club to win it in their debut season.
International
For Italy, Alexander Egger took part in the 1997 U18 Junior B European Championship in the junior division. He played with the men's selection at the World Championships in Division I in 2003 , 2011 , 2013 , 2015 and 2016 as well as in the World Championships in the Top Division in 2006 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 . In 2013 and 2014 he was the captain of the Italian selection. He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
