Alexander Polzin

Alexander Polzin (* 1973 in Berlin ) is a Berlin sculptor , painter , graphic artist , costume and set designer .

biography

He has exhibited his work at the Getty Center in Los Angeles (2000), in Budapest, Bucharest and Naples (2001), at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (2004), Bard College New York (2006), Van Leer Institute Israel (2007) , San Francisco International Arts Festival (2008) and at the Teatro Real in Madrid (2011). His sculptures in public space include "The Fallen Angel" in front of the Semper Observatory Collegium Helveticum in Zurich , the monument to Giordano Bruno on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, "Socrates" on the campus of Tel Aviv University, and "The Couple" , ordered for the foyer of the Opera National de Bastille, Paris. Polzin's sculptures are all made in collaboration with the Marc Krepp art casting workshop.

Polzin worked with the composers Amos Elkana , Helmut Lachenmann and György Kurtág in order to combine their music with the visual arts. Polzin was a guest at the International Artist House in Herzliya, Israel, ETH Zurich, The Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California and was the first artist-in-residence at the Center for Advanced Study at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg “Recht als Kultur” in Bonn. Polzin taught as a visiting professor at the ETH Zurich and at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Polzin works regularly as a set designer for opera, dance and drama. He is represented by Maestro Arts and the Kornfeld Gallery (Berlin).
