Alexander von Seydlitz-Kurzbach

Karl Leonhard Alexander von Seydlitz-Kurzbach (born December 16, 1847 in Insterburg , † December 29, 1935 in Schwerin-Zippendorf ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

He was a son of the Prussian captain and director of the prison Georgenburg near Insterburg Gustav von Seydlitz-Kurzbach (1796-1854) and Sophie Gertrude, née von Münchow (1818-1887). From his marriage to Helene, née von Guenther (1856–1933), the future general of the artillery Walther von Seydlitz-Kurzbach emerged. The later Prussian Major General Kurt von Seydlitz-Kurzbach (1849–1913) was his younger brother.

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Seydlitz was transferred to the Magdeburg Fusilier Regiment No. 36 of the Prussian Army on April 18, 1865 as portepeefähnrich . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-November 1865 and took part in the battles near Nachod , Skalitz and Königgrätz as well as the battle near Schweinschädel during the war against Austria . His behavior was honored by the award of the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords. In the war against France in 1870/71, Seydlitz fought during the siege of Paris on Mont Valérien and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. From 1871 to 1874 Seydlitz worked as an inspection officer and teacher at the Neiße War School and then graduated from the War Academy as a prime lieutenant for three years for further training . After his promotion to captain, he was transferred to the 1st Upper Rhine Infantry Regiment No. 97 as a company commander on March 22, 1881 . This was followed by a use in the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 from August 3, 1885 to August 21, 1891 . Seydlitz was then transferred as a major to the Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" No. 90 and was used until July 23, 1894 as commander of the 2nd battalion in Wismar . Under position à la suite of the regiment, he then came to the Weissenfels NCO School as commander and in mid-June 1896 advanced to lieutenant colonel . With the rank and birth of a regimental commander, he was appointed commander of the Landwehr district of Berlin IV on May 24, 1898. In this position, Seydlitz rose to colonel on January 27, 1899 and was from April 18, 1901 to June 18, 1902 as Commander of the infantry regiment "Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau" (1st Magdeburg) No. 26 active. He was then promoted to major general commander of the 61st Infantry Brigade in Strasbourg . Seydlitz was released from this command on July 19, 1904 and appointed commander of Danzig . In this position he was given the character of Lieutenant General on March 20, 1906 , before he was put on disposition to Seydlitz on February 25, 1909 in approval of his resignation request with the statutory pension .

He was the holder of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with swords on the ring and the Crown Order II. Class with a star.
