The season 1956/57 the Amateur Oberliga Niedersachsen was the eighth season of highest Lower Saxony amateur league in football . At that time it took the second highest level in the German league system. Champion was the SV Union Salzgitter . In addition to Salzgitter, VfB Oldenburg and VfB Peine qualified for the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord , where no team could prevail. SV Arminia Hannover rose from the Oberliga Nord to the Amateur Oberliga Niedersachsen.

The relegation places were occupied by VfL Bückeburg and Roland Delmenhorst in the west and by SC Uelzen 09 and 1. FC Wolfsburg in the east . For this, the amateurs of VfL Osnabrück and Germania Wilhelmshaven rose from the Lower Saxony amateur league in the group west and the SVG Göttingen 07 and Rot-Weiß Steterburg in the group east. For the 1957/58 season, the Hannoversche SC moved to the Eastern Group and Prussia Hameln to the Western Group.
