The Behrungen office , as a Behrungen winery , was a small territorial administrative unit of the county of Henneberg . After the Count von Henneberg -Schleusingen died out in 1583, the office came under the joint administration of the Albertine and Ernestine Wettins . By splitting up the county of Henneberg in 1660, the office was assigned to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . Afterwards it belonged to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha- Altenburg from 1672 and from 1680 to the Duchy of Saxe-Römhild through the division of inheritance .

Since this line died out in 1710, the Behrungen winery was now assigned to the Duchy of Saxony-Hildburghausen . The “Amt Behrungen” came into being after the allocation of four Sachsen-Meiningischen places in Sachsen-Hildburghausen, whereby these were united with the winery Behrungen. The office of Behrungen came to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen in 1826 .

Until the administrative and territorial reform of the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen in 1829, and the related resolution made it as official spatial reference point for claiming nationalistic taxes and labor services , for police , judiciary and military service .

Wolfmannshausen also bordered the office in the east . Until 1808 it belonged as an exclave to the Bishopric of Würzburg or the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and came to the Office of Römhild in exchange with the neighboring town of Sondheim im Grabfeld to the west of the office.

history

County of Henneberg

The place Behrungen , first mentioned in 795, was in the 13th century in the area of the county of Henneberg . During the main division of Henneberg in 1274, like the neighboring Hendungen, it came to the Henneberg - Aschach line , which later referred to itself as "Henneberg-Römhild" after the head office was moved to the neighboring Römhild .

Through an inheritance of the county of Henneberg-Aschach (-Römhild) in 1468, Behrungen came to the "Römhilder part" under Count Friedrich II. Von Henneberg-Aschach († 1488). In a further division of the estate among the grandsons of Friedrich II von Henneberg-Aschach in 1532, the place came to Albrecht von Henneberg-Schwarza . With his death in 1549, the Henneberg- Schwarza line became extinct .

The property of Albrechts von Henneberg-Schwarza was to fall to his wife Katharina, née Countess zu Stolberg , by will. However, the Counts of Henneberg - Schleusingen took possession of the legacy, which has made Behrungen part of this line ever since. After the Counts of Henneberg died out in 1583, the “ Behrungen Winery ”, as the administrative district around the place was called, came under the joint administration of the Ernestine and Albertine Wettins as part of the Henneberg-Schleusingen County under the Kahla Treaty of 1554 .

Ernestine duchies

When the county of Henneberg was divided in 1660, the Behrungen winery came to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . With the extinction of the Sachsen-Altenburg line in 1672, the winery fell to the Duchy of Sachsen-Gotha , which has been called Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg since then . This was divided in 1680, as a result of which Behrungen came to the Duchy of Saxony-Römhild . After the Sachsen-Römhild line died out again in 1710, the Behrungen winery was assigned to the Duchy of Sachsen-Hildburghausen after the inheritance disputes had ended.

As a result of the "Schalkau Exchange Agreement" in 1723, the Principality of Saxony-Hildburghausen received the places Queienfeld , Rentwertshausen , Berkach and Schwickershausen (Meiningischer share) in exchange for the Amt Schalkau from the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , which since then has been honored with the "Amt Behrungen" formed. In 1808 the Duchy of Saxony-Hildburghausen and the Grand Duchy of Würzburg agreed on a transfer of the Würzburg fiefdoms in Berkach to Saxony-Hildburghausen.

The extinction of the Saxon-Gotha-Altenburg line in 1826 required a reorganization of the Ernestine duchies . A large part of Saxony-Hildburghausen, including the Behrungen office, fell to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , which Behrungen and the associated small office immediately incorporated into the now also Meining Römhild office . As a result, the shares of Schwickershausen were now reunited under one rule.

As part of the reorganization of the Meiningen national territory, the offices were dissolved by 1829 and the judiciary and administration were separated from each other. The official business in administrative matters has now been transferred to the “Römhild Administration Office” responsible for honors, and the court duties have been transferred to the appropriate judicial office. During a structural reorganization of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen in 1868, the district of Hildburghausen was formed from the administrative offices of Römhild and Hildburghausen , to which Behrungen came. The other four places were incorporated into the district of Meiningen .
