history

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Darmstadt” was set up as a court of second instance for the Principality of Starkenburg . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords . The court court was the court of the second instance for normal civil disputes and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. "Landgericht Langen" was therefore from 1821 to 1879 the name of the first instance court in Lange, today's district court. In the territorial territories of the Starkenburg province , there was still a judicial office in Michelstadt for court cases of the second instance, which was subordinate to the court. The German Courts Constitution Act of 1879 led to a uniform judicial organization throughout the empire . The “Hofgericht Darmstadt” has now become the “ Regional Court of Darmstadt ” as the superior second instance in the province, while the first instance courts have been renamed the District Court.

Others

The district court of Langen became particularly well-known through several judgments on so-called Internet subscription traps , whereby the AG Langen had mostly ruled in favor of the subscription trap operator.

Since these judgments partly contradict the decisions of other German courts in comparable cases, the district court of Langen was very criticized for this case law in the professional world. Because of this favorable jurisprudence, operators of Internet subscription traps had to enclose a copy of such a ruling by the AG Langen with their reminders sent to the citizens in order to make them feel insecure and to induce them to pay their unjustified claim . This led to a flood of telephone inquiries from affected citizens from all over Germany to the Langen District Court. The district court of Langen saw itself prompted to place a special note on its homepage with the following wording: Due to numerous telephone and written inquiries, we would like to point out the following: Under the file number 58 C 6/10 on 06/14/2010 there is a judgment in one Civil case has been issued. This judgment has legal effect only between the parties to this dispute. Legal advice or further information on the justification of alleged claims against you cannot be given by the Langen District Court .

Since there are a total of three district courts in the Offenbach district with the Offenbach District Court , the Seligenstadt District Court and the Langen District Court, which is a lot in a nationwide comparison for a district, there are rumors of plans by the Hessian state government to dissolve the Langen District Court in the medium term.

The director of the AG Langen is currently Volker Horn. He is at the same time chairman of the CDU local association Froschhausen and CDU member of the district council of the Offenbach district . He also stood in the state elections in Hesse in 2008 as a representative of the CDU direct candidate Frank Lortz in the Offenbach Land III constituency .

The district court of Langen in Hesse is located around 15 km south of Frankfurt am Main and is often confused with the district court of Langen in Lower Saxony because it has the same name .
