Andreas Woyke (born April 28, 1966 in Siegen ) is a German concert pianist , jazz pianist and composer .

Career

Andreas Woyke received his first piano lessons at the youth music school in Siegen at the age of 3. At the age of 17 he was already a young student at the State University of Music in Cologne with Pavel Gililov . From 1985 to 1990 he studied the piano in Cologne and graduated with distinction. From 1993 he continued his studies in Cologne and was a guest student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Rudolf Kehrer . Other teachers of Andreas Woyke were Siegfried Fiedler, Pàl Molnar, Aldo Antognazzi and Julio Largacha .

In 1995 he was a répétiteur at the Vienna Volksoper and lecturer at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts . He has been teaching in Graz since 1998 and is a multi-style concert pianist , chamber musician , jazz pianist and composer .

Concert activity

Andreas Woyke can be heard as a soloist , chamber musician, improviser and jazz musician . a. in the Townhall New York , in the Kennedy Center in Washington DC , in the Sala Sao Paulo , in the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus Wien , in the Philharmonie im Gasteig Munich , in the Philharmonie Cologne , in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf , in the Beethovenhaus Bonn , in the Radiohuset Stockholm , in the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow , in the Great Broadcasting Hall in Bucharest , in the South Africa State Theater Pretoria and the Oriental Arts Center Shanghai . He played with conductors such as João Carlos Martins, Kazushi Ōno , Gérard Korsten , Heribert Beissel , Pàl Molnar, Rolf Agop and Volker Wangenheim . He also worked on projects with artists such as Christa Ludwig , Julia Stemberger , Cornelius Obonya , Mercedes Echerer and Michael Krüger .

Artistic creation

Andreas Woyke crosses stylistic boundaries both in his concerts and in his CD recordings. On his solo CDs he interwoven piano works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Frédéric Chopin with his own compositions inspired by jazz . As an improviser, he works with painters and accompanies silent films . Woyke is just as open to styles such as rock , jazz-rock , funk , soul , ethno or house as he is to classical directions and Renaissance music . The Austrian cellist Friedrich Kleinhapl has been his permanent duo partner since 2003 , with whom he has given concerts worldwide. Joint CD recordings by the Ars Produktion label have won international prizes such as the Pasticcio Prize (ORF) and the Excellentia Award. For his CD Festas Suramericanas (2018), Andreas Woyke received the Supersonic Award and an ICMA nomination. In addition, he was nominated for the Opus Klassik in the category "Solo instrument recording" . He also got a nomination for the German Record Critics' Prize .

In 2003 he founded the fusion jazz band "D'yamba".

Andreas Woyke lives as a freelance pianist in Graz and teaches piano and chamber music at the art university there . He regularly gives master classes for students around the world . a. in Europe , North and South America and Asia .
