August Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Schroeder (born February 17, 1842 in Kolberg , † April 18, 1915 in Friedenau near Berlin) was a Prussian major general .

Life

August was a son of the Prussian major Friedrich Wilhelm von Schroeder (1796–1873) and his wife Auguste, née Ventzki (1812–1890). His older brother Albrecht (1833-1910) also became a Prussian major general.

Military career

Schroeder attended the citizens' school in Kolberg, the grammar schools in Stettin and Stargard in Pomerania, and the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . Subsequently, on May 17, 1859, he was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a charged portepeef ensign and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-September 1860 . From October 1864 to June 1866 Schroeder was assigned to serve at the NCO school in Potsdam . During the war against Austria , he took part in the battles of Münchengrätz and Königgrätz as platoon leader in his regiment and rose to prime lieutenant at the end of July 1866 .

After a brief assignment in the replacement battalion of his regiment, Schroeder was leader of the 6th Company during the war against France , with which he participated in the battle on the Epte and the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, it was after the peace agreement as at February 10, 1872 captain and company commander in the 5th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment. 42 is added. With the promotion to major, Schroeder was aggregated to the regiment in mid-April 1884 and assigned to the regiment mid -March of the following year. From July 14, 1885 to January 14, 1889 he was in command of the 1st Battalion and then in the same capacity he was transferred to the Westphalian Fusilier Regiment No. 37 in Krotoschin . With his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Schroeder rose to the status of a regular staff officer on March 24, 1890. On March 29, 1892 he was board for disposition made and first as commander of the militia district Jueterbog used before the Landwehr District on July 28, 1892 Bernau took over. Schroeder received the character of a colonel on March 16, 1893 and was commander of Landwehr district III. Berlin. On March 22, 1897, he switched back to active service, was awarded the Crown Order of the Second Class in January 1899 on the occasion of the Order's festival , and on April 18, 1899, he was again put up for disposition as major general with a pension . He died on April 18, 1915 in Berlin-Friedenau.

In his assessment of January 1, 1898, the inspector of the Landwehr Inspection Berlin, Major General Becker, wrote: "Colonel von Schroeder, of medium figure, advantageous military appearance and dexterous form, is mentally well disposed."

Schroeder married on June 10, 1872 in Gera Elisabeth Edle von Oetinger (1851-1920). The couple had several children:
