Augustin Egger , also Augustinus Egger , (born August 5, 1833 in Kirchberg SG ; † March 12, 1906 in St. Gallen ) was Bishop of St. Gallen .

Life

Augustin Egger attended high school in Fischingen Abbey . After graduating from high school in St. Gallen, he attended philosophy courses in Fischingen and St. Gallen. He studied theology in Tübingen and entered the St. Gallen- St. Georgen seminary . In 1856 he was ordained a priest. From 1857 to 1862 Egger was a teacher and prefect at the Episcopal Boys' Seminar in St. Georgen. He was then pastor in Oberriet in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley . In 1865 he became a resident canon and cathedral catechist in St. Gallen. In 1872 he was appointed cathedral dean and official as well as vicar general of the diocese of St. Gallen .

In 1882 he was elected Bishop of St. Gallen and appointed by Pope Leo XIII. He died in office in 1906.
