Almaz Ayana
Almaz Ayana (born November 21, 1991 in the Benishangul region ) is an Ethiopian long-distance and obstacle runner .
In 2010 she was fifth at the Junior World Championships in Moncton over 3000 meters obstacle and second at the São Silvestre de Luanda . In 2013 she became national champion in obstacle course and won bronze over 5000 meters at the World Championships in Moscow .
At the 2014 African Championships in Marrakech , she won the gold medal in the 5000 meter run.
On August 30, 2015, she became world champion in the 5000-meter run in Beijing . She won the final run with a new world championship record of 14: 26.83 minutes.
On August 12, 2016, she won the 10,000-meter run at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with a time of 29: 17.45 minutes, setting a new world record.
After her Olympic victory, Ayana did not contest a single 10,000 meter race for a year. In her first run, she became world champion in the 10,000 meter run at the 2017 World Championships in London on August 5, 2017 . In a time of 30: 16.32 minutes superior with a three-quarters of a minute lead. Over 5000 meters she fought an exciting duel with the Kenyan Hellen Obiri , who she clearly had to admit defeat on the final lap.
In the same year she won the Delhi half marathon in 1:07:12 h.
