The P2 The Second Post GmbH & Co. KG , also briefly P2 called, is an association of private postal service providers with headquarters in Moerfelden-Walldorf . P2 Brief + Paket Beteiligungs GmbH is a general partner . P2 was founded in 2007 by nine Southwest German publishers as a cooperation between their delivery companies. The majority of these shareholders belong to Südwestdeutsche Medien Holding or to the Medien Union, which is intertwined with it . Business operations began in early 2008.

At the end of 2008, the P2 network, which consists of shareholders and other contractual partners, already had over 20 regional postal service providers. P2 also uses this network to deliver letters nationwide and worldwide. According to its own information, P2 and its partners now cover around 50 percent of German households.

In September 2009 it was announced that the Dutch TNT Post with P2 and also with the for Madsack belonging Citipost under the name Mail Alliance through cooperation against the main rival German Post AG negotiated. However, P2 has not yet joined.

In June 2010 the Madsack publishing group bought six City Post companies. Five companies are incorporated into LVZ Postlogistik Leipzig (Leipzig, Delitzsch and Eilenburg, Grimma and Wurzen, Döbeln and Oschatz as well as Borna and Geithain). The City-Post Torgau is integrated into the Torgau Post Logistics. The six companies are part of the P2 Brief + Parcel network. Nothing should change about that. LVZ Postlogistik has already applied for membership in the P2 network. The Citipost network and the Mail Alliance would thus have direct access to the P2 network.

In 2012, the association and its partners employed 45,000 people and looked after around 50,000 customers, according to its own press release for the fifth year of existence. At the mailingtage in Nuremberg, for the first time after the insolvency of the PIN Group, a private postal company issued nationwide stamps again.
