history

Foundation of the association and first participation in the 2nd Futbol Ligi

The association was founded in 1957 under the name Ünye Gençlerbirliği . With the exception of two seasons, the club was one of the permanent members of the second-rate Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi for three decades from the summer of 1965 .

First descent from the 2nd Futbol Ligi

In the summer of 1993, the club rose to the third highest Turkish league.

Systemic relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams that only occupied a middle place in the table in the third division 2000/01 season were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd league, for the coming season. Bandırmaspor, which had ended the league in 8th place in the table, had to relegate to the 3rd Lig due to the system. Here you took part in the game until the end of the 2005 season and then relegated to the regional amateur league.

Return to professional football

After three years of abstinence from the professional leagues, the club rose to the fourth-highest Turkish league in 2008. 2009/10 followed the championship in the TFF 3rd Lig and thus promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig . For the next few seasons, the club led the TFF 2. Lig as first in the table and only lost its lead in the final game days. They took part at the end of the season in the relegation games, in which the third and last climber was played and failed both times.

Return to the TFF 1st Lig

After several unsuccessful attempts, Bandırmaspor achieved the long-awaited promotion to the TFF 1st Lig in the summer of 2016 . Under the leadership of head coach İsmail Ertekin , who had already led the club to the TFF 2nd Lig in summer 2009 and arch-rivals Balıkesirspor from the TFF 2nd Lig to the Süper Lig in the years 2012 to 2014 , the team qualified in the end the regular league phase through 3rd place in the table for participation in the subsequent play-off phase. In the play-offs in which the third and final climber is determined by the knockout system , the club sat down against Hacettepe SK , İstanbulspor and in the final against Gümüşhanespor and thus returned to TFF 1 after a 13-year absence .Lig back.
