The Hamburg Authority for Justice and Consumer Protection (BJV for short) is one of eleven specialist authorities of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . It performs the tasks of a state ministry and is responsible for the administration of justice and consumer protection in the Hanseatic city. It is based at Drehbahn 36 in Hamburg-Neustadt .

Senator for Justice and Consumer Protection and President of the authority has been Anna Gallina ( Greens ) since June 10, 2020 ; Katja Günther is State Councilor .

history

The judicial authority was created on January 1, 1967 from the merger of the former “prison authority” with the previously independent “state justice administration”, which oversaw the courts, public prosecutors and other institutions.

With the start of the red-green coalition in Senate Scholz II , the area of equality was transferred from the judicial authority to the authority for science, research and equality (formerly only authority for science and research).

In the course of the continuation of the red-green coalition after the 2020 general election , in 2020 in the Tschentscher II Senate responsibility for consumer protection was transferred from the now dissolved health and consumer protection authority to the judicial authority.
