Inselspital is a Bern district in the III Mattenhof-Weissenbühl district and the 12 Holligen statistical district .
In 2019, the population is 251, of which 135 are Swiss and 116 are foreigners.
In addition to the Inselspital as a university clinic and cantonal hospital, there is the Bremgartenfriedhof in the north and residential buildings in the south-west, which contain further health facilities on the ground floor. The Lory Park is located between the Lory Hospital and the main building. It was redesigned in 2018/19 and is now called Insel-Park
In 2013, a master plan was presented to turn a group of hospital buildings into an urban quarter. It includes planning for the next 50 years. The building regulations are based on the winning project of an ideas competition that was won by the Munich architects Henn at the end of 2010. Structural densification, more high-rise buildings and green spaces (the one at the Loryhaus has now been completed) are planned. A long-term vision is the Insel S-Bahn station through the continuation of the RBS , which is currently being rebuilt in the area of the Bern station and where a corresponding extension would be possible.
traffic
At Loryplatz in the south, lines 7 and 8 of the Bern tram run towards the center. The 2011 bus line 11 ("island bus") also connects with the center.
