Bhojpur is a district in the Indian state of Bihar .
The area is 2830 km². The administrative seat is the city of Arrah .
history
In 1972, the Shahabad district was divided into two parts, namely Bhojpur and Rohtas . Buxar was then a subdivision of the old Bhojpur district. In 1992 Buxar became a separate district. Currently, the rest of the Bhojpur District consists of three subdivisions - Ara Sadar, Jagdishpur and Piro.

The population is 2,811,569 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 30.25% and was therefore very high. Bhojpur has a gender ratio of 907 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district has a literacy rate of 70.47% in 2011, an increase of almost 12 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus above the average in Bihar. Almost 92% of the population are Hindus and around 7% are Muslim .
Almost 14.3% of the population live in cities. The largest city was Arrah with a population of 261,430.
