Khagaria is a district in the Indian state of Bihar .

The area is 1486 km². The administrative seat is the city of Khagaria .

The number of inhabitants in 2011 was 1,666,886. The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 30.19% and was therefore very high. Khagaria has a gender ratio of 886 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The district had a literacy rate of 57.92% in 2011 , an increase of almost 16 percentage points compared to 2001. This means that literacy is below the national average. Almost 89% of the population are Hindus and around 11% are Muslim .

Almost 5.2% of the population live in cities.
