The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian Oružane snage of Bosnia and Herzegovina / Оружане снаге Босне и Херцеговине ), short OSBiH / ОСБиХ were 2,006 from the Army of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (VFBiH) and the Army of Republika Srpska ( VRS). The armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina consist of army units and air forces , although the air force does not form its own armed forces . Naval associations do not exist. The armed forces include around 9200 active soldiers , 4600 reservists and 1000 civilian employees. General conscription was lifted on January 1, 2006.
The aim is to integrate the armed forces into European and Euro-Atlantic structures and to participate in UN operations . In 2006 Bosnia and Herzegovina joined NATO - “ Partnership for Peace ”. In October 2010, a military contingent consisting of 45 members was sent to Afghanistan to support the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) .
history
The Bosnian-Herzegovinian armed forces go back to the three armies that fought against each other in the Bosnian War , namely the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH), the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) and the Army of the Republika Srpska (VRS). After the Bosnian War, until the end of 2004, defense policy lay with the two newly formed entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, which maintained their own armed forces, from which the Bosnian-Herzegovinian armed forces were formed in 2006. These are subordinate to the State Presidency and the Ministry of Defense, which was created in 2004 .
structure
The army is divided into three mechanized infantry regiments 4th, 5th and 6th Infantry - Regiment , an Army aviation brigade and a brigade support, which are subject to the operation command. The training and logistics unit are subordinate to the training command.
In addition to the formally integrated operational structures, there is a Croatian, Bosniak and Serbian regiment ( 1st, 2nd and 3rd infantry regiment ), which are supposed to continue the traditions of the three historical armed forces HVO, ARBiH and VRS.
