Brett Clifford Gelman (born October 6, 1976 in Highland Park , Illinois ) is an American actor and comedian who is best known in the USA for his roles in various comedy series. Internationally known made him especially roles in Love and Stranger Things .

Early years

Brett Gelman is from Highland Park, Illinois, where he grew up with a younger sister. They were brought up in the Jewish faith . After Gelman graduated from Highland Park High School, he later studied at the University of North Carolina of the Arts , where he received a theater education.

Career

After graduating from university, Gelman moved with a fellow student to New York City , where Gelman became part of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater . At first he only managed to get hold of appearances in film and television occasionally. So he already took on his first role in front of the camera in 1998, but about 10 years passed before he took part in larger productions. From 2010 he was seen in films like The Somewhat Different Cops , 30 Minutes or Less , Harold & Kumar - Every year again , Jobs , Crazy About Barry , Wilson - The World Improver or The Disaster Artist .

Gelman can be seen regularly in guest roles on US television. His appearances include Californication , Leave It, Larry! , Das Büro , The Inbetweeners , NTSF: SD: SUV :: , We Are Men , The League , Fresh Off the Boat , Man Seeking Woman , Odd Couple , Mad Men , Fleabag or Twin Peaks . In addition, he took on major supporting roles in some comedy series. For example in Eagleheart , Married , TripTank , Jeff & Some Aliens or Another Period . In 2016 he was also part of the writing team for The Eric Andre Show , which runs on Adult Swim .

From 2016 Gelman was able to draw attention to himself with roles in internationally successful series. Until 2018 he played the role of Dr. Greg Colter in Love . He previously starred as Mr. K in the series Go On from 2012 to 2013 . In 2017 he was part of the cast of the second season of the Netflix series Stranger Things as private detective Murray Bauman . This role also made him known to an international audience. For season 4, he was promoted to lead actor.

In 2017 the film Lemon , which he co-written, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival , in which Gelman also played the lead role. At his side were Judy Greer , Michael Cera , Nia Long and Gillian Jacobs .

Gelman has appeared in over 90 film and television productions since the beginning of his career.

Private

In December 2015, Gelman married his longtime girlfriend, writer and director Janicza Bravo . They met during a commercial in New York and now live together in Los Angeles .
