His brother Matt is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Brian Lashoff began his career in 2006 with the Barrie Colts from the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . He had a solid debut season in the league's third-best defense but was unable to maintain his place for the entire season. In the playoffs he reached the second round with the Colts, but where they failed to the Sudbury Wolves .
In the 2007/08 season Lashoff was slowed down by an ankle injury, but still led the defenders of the ailing Colts with 20 points from 50 games. In the first round of the playoffs, the seventh-placed team of the Eastern Conference surprised the favored Brampton Battalion , but was eliminated in the second round against the Belleville Bulls .
In the NHL Entry Draft 2008 Lashoff was not selected by any team, but in the fall the Detroit Red Wings from the NHL invited him to the training camp and there he convinced, so that the team signed him for three years. Although normally players under the age of 20 can only be signed via the NHL Entry Draft , the Red Wings used a rule that allows undocumented junior players who have participated in an NHL team's training camp to be signed within 14 days of the training camp .
The 2008/09 season began Lashoff again with the Barrie Colts before they transferred him in December 2008 within the OHL to the bottom of the league, the Kingston Frontenacs . He was appointed team captain there and contributed six goals and 13 assists in the last 35 games of the season . The Frontenacs finally ended the season in March 2009 on the penultimate rank of the league and missed the playoffs clearly. Shortly after the end of the regular OHL season, the Grand Rapids Griffins , who serve as the Detroit farm team in the AHL , appointed him to their squad and Lashoff made his professional debut on March 29. He made a good debut with the Griffins with five points from the last six regular season games, ousted Logan Pyett for the playoffs from the squad and became a fixture in the outnumbered formation of his team.
The 2010/11 season began Lashoff with the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL , in which he came to three missions and an assist was before he was called back to the AHL squad of the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In the shortened season 2012/13 Lashoff made his debut in the NHL, whereupon he established himself in the Red Wings squad and completed 75 games in the following season 2013/14. He lost his regular place again with the 2014/15 season.
Brian Lashoff has a hard shot and good mobility despite his height of 1.91 meters, but he has not yet specialized in a particular defensive role but he can develop into a full defender according to the talent scouts. His defensive behavior can be improved and he can use his body more often against the opponent.
