The Brother Klaus Church , also Graz-Ragnitz parish church , is a Roman Catholic church in the Inner Ragnitz district of Graz , Ries  (X) district. The church is dedicated to St. Niklaus von Flüe , called Brother Klaus.

History and design

With the construction of the settlement on Berliner Ring in the 1960s and the associated increase in population in the Ragnitztal east of Graz, the decision was made to build a parish center and church. The plans come from the architect couple Karla Kowalski and Michael Szyszkowitz . The Brother Klaus Church was consecrated in 1987. In the place of the sacred building, there was previously an emergency church that no longer met the needs of the constantly growing community.

Next to the church there are pastoral, group and administrative rooms as well as a kindergarten. In front of the church itself is a square surrounded by an arcade around which the individual buildings are grouped. The free-standing bell tower in the shape of a ship's bow is held in place by concrete pillars. The interior with its wooden ceiling, on the other hand, has the shape of a ship's keel. Possible relics of the church patron are venerated in the stone substructure of the altar . A plate made of pear wood in the shape of a sacrificial bowl is placed on the altar substructure. Next door is a slender stone lectern and above the altar a hanging crucifix with black paintings commemorates the sufferings of Christ. The cross and tabernacle were designed by sculptor Thomas Hoke. The late Baroque Madonna is a permanent loan from Salzburg . The church patron is shown in the form of a wooden statue and together with his wife Dorothea in the church. The baptistery is designed as a separate room. The weekday chapel, which contains memorabilia from the former emergency church, is also attached to the main room of the church. In October 2000 the new organ with a total of 22 registers was consecrated.
