Burnham is a town in Waldo County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1164 inhabitants in 714 households on an area of 106.76 km².

Geographical location
Burnham is in the northwest of Waldo County and is bordered by Somerset County to the northwest and Kennebec County to the southwest. The Sebasticook River flows south through the town. It forms part of its western border, but there is an area centrally located west of the Sebasticook River. Unity Pond borders the area in the southeast . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Burnham was organized as a town on February 4, 1824. The area had previously been organized as a Twenty-five Mile Pond Plantation . As early as 1804, the Town Unity was organized from the Plantation area. In 1873, the Clinton Gore area west of the Sebasticook River was added to the Town area.
In Burnham met a railway line of the Maine Central Railroad (MEC) with the route of the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad (B&ML) and a never completed extension of the route of the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway (WW&F). Today, the Cumberland Center – Bangor line , built by the Maine Central Railroad or its predecessors, is operated by Pan Am Railways in freight traffic . The railway line Burnham Junction Belfast of B&ML is now owned by the state of Maine, but without train traffic. The WW&F Wiscasset – Burnham railway was extended to near Burnham at the beginning of the 20th century, but was never operated regularly. The rest of the WW&F line was shut down in 1933 and dismantled soon after.
