Cambio CarSharing (proper spelling: cambio CarSharing ) or short Cambio (proper spelling: cambio ) is a European services - group of companies in the car sharing industry by providing in Germany and Belgium is represented. The Cambio group of companies is currently (beginning of 2019) an amalgamation of 16 investment and partner companies in Germany and Belgium. The holding company, cambio Mobility Service GmbH & Co. KG , has been based in Bremen since it was founded in March 2000; The managing directors are Joachim Schwarz and Bettina Dannheim.
Dannheim worked as a radiation protection expert at Robin Wood . Schwarz, a social pedagogue, worked as a moderator for squatted houses in Bremen and in self-managed businesses.

The holding company does not operate a car sharing service, but rather provides the subsidiaries and partners with central services in the form of a franchise-like offering, in particular software and call centers . Through the subsidiary Carsharing Service GmbH (CSS) founded in 2005, the company also offers IT and call centers for other car sharing companies.

The actual car sharing business is operated on site by independent companies , which are mostly limited liability companies . Cambio Belgium is currently (beginning of 2019) represented in 49 Belgian cities with 530 stations, including: Aarlen , Antwerp , Bergen , Bruges , Brussels , Chiny , Gent , Hasselt , Kortrijk , Löwen , Lier , Liège , Mechelen , Mons , Namur , Oostende , Ottignies , Turnhout and Zwijndrecht .

The Cambio group of companies is the second largest car sharing company in Germany among the station-based car sharing providers .

Vehicle use

The vehicles can phone around the clock by the customer via the Internet and with the help of smartphone - apps be booked up to 180 days in advance. The journey can take anywhere from an hour to 30 days. The booking is transferred to the vehicle station within a few minutes. The Cambio group of companies emerged from the environmental movement of the 1980s and 1990s. Committed people in Aachen, Bremen and Cologne started using vehicles together independently of one another. StadtAuto Bremen and ViertelAuto Aachen were created at the end of 1990 and were among the first providers in the car sharing industry, while StattAuto Cologne was created in 1992. Increasing customer numbers led to increasing professionalism and in March 2000 the previously independent car sharing companies from Aachen, Bremen and Cologne merged and founded the Cambio Group - the holding company Cambio Mobility Service GmbH & Co. KG was created , based in Bremen. As a result, the offer was gradually expanded and extended to other cities in Germany and in neighboring Belgium. The Cambio Group is still predominantly owned by customers and employees.

In 2000 , the Aachen District Auto District brought in a newly founded subsidiary , Saarmobil Carsharing GmbH . Since 2008 there has been a Cambio offer in Berlin and under the name GoCar also in Ireland ( Cork ). Since March 2011, Cambio and Greenpeace Energy have initially been using six electric vehicles in car sharing operations in Hamburg, which are charged with green electricity from additional eco-power plants. In mid-November 2011 Cambio opened two car sharing stations in Bonn, the group of companies was represented in 14 German cities. Together with Greenpeace Energy, Cambio will be using electric cars in Cologne from March 2012 that are charged with green electricity.

Since May and November 2012 it has been possible to use the Cambio booking app to book vehicles or change bookings using Apple iOS and Android mobile devices. This is linked to a voluntary direct quality control of the vehicle condition.

In April 2013, Cambio joined the European Cleaner Car Contracts campaign . criticism

In the car sharing test conducted by Stiftung Warentest in September 2012, Cambio came last. The testers particularly criticized the general terms and conditions of the group of companies; in detail it was about the exclusion of liability when using vehicles without winter tires in winter as well as ambiguities regarding the transfer of customer data. Due to the criticism, Cambio's general terms and conditions were revised on July 1, 2013. In the follow-up test in July 2015, Stiftung Warentest found only minor deficiencies in the general terms and conditions, and Cambio took third place out of eleven tested providers with the grade “Good” (2.0). In the latest study (test 5/2020), Cambio also received the grade "Good" (2.3).
