The Canon EOS 350D (in Japan EOS Kiss Digital N , in North America EOS Rebel XT ) is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Canon , which was launched in March 2005. It is no longer produced.
technical features
The camera has an 8 megapixel sensor (3456 × 2304) measuring 22.2 mm × 14.8 mm. Continuous recordings of up to 5 RAW images in a row are possible at maximum resolution. The camera has seven auto focus areas .
The contrast range of the JPEG images is 8.6 f-stops with the standard settings. Individual settings can be made and saved in your own profiles. These include color saturation, contrast and sharpness. According to the manufacturer, hardly any color noise can be seen at ISO 400.
The images can be saved both in JPEG format with 24 bit color depth (8 bit per color channel) and in RAW format with 36 bit color depth (12 bit per color channel). When storing raw data, the camera uses a lossless compression algorithm and does not process the image data (such as white balance or sharpening).
In flash mode, the camera only supports E-TTL mode, so older system flashes such as the Canon Speedlite 540EZ only work manually or, like the Canon ML-3 ring flash , do not ignite at all. The manufacturer therefore recommends the use of E-TTL-compatible devices, which include the Speedlite models of the EX series.
The battery capacity of the camera can be expanded with the BG-E3 battery grip . Six AA batteries or two rechargeable batteries can be used in these. It also has additional controls for portrait format recordings.
The housing of the 350D is made of polycarbonate and has a size of approximately 126.5 mm × 94.2 mm × 64 mm. Without the battery, it weighs around 485 g. The lens connection is compatible with lenses with Canon- EF / EF-S bayonet.
The conversion factor (crop) of the APS-C sensor to the 35mm image equivalent is 1.6.
The camera also offers the following features:
- Mirror lock-up
- Switch-on time of 0.2 seconds
- 2.9 series images / s and max. 23 JPEG images and 6 RAW in a row. According to the manufacturer, higher values are also possible with a fast storage medium.
- Simultaneous saving of RAW and JPEG data
- The resolution of the TFT monitor is 115,000 pixels
- USB 2.0 interface
- Long exposure noise reduction
- DIGIC -II image processor
Tampered firmware
Regardless of the manufacturer, a modified firmware was distributed that offers some extended functions, as can also be found on the EOS 20D model of the camera manufacturer:
- Exposure index expandable up to ISO 3200, selectable in 1/3 f-stops
- Spot metering
- Output of the number of tripping processes
- White balance by color temperature
- Turn off the flash
- Safety shift
- Extended exposure series with up to 6 exposure levels instead of 2
- Automatic series picture recordings (time lapse)
