camera
The 50D is similar to its predecessor 40D in a number of ways. The menu navigation, the white balance, the construction of the pop-up flash and the size of the LCD display (3.0 ") are the same. However, the display has a higher resolution with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels or 307,200 pixels EOS models in this series use the standard BP-511 battery.
- 15.1 megapixel resolution
- Enhanced Live View AF
- Battery compartment and CF card compartment sealed; the housing is otherwise not splash-proof.
- 9-point AF (all sensors are cross sensors, the middle one works with lenses with at least 2.8 aperture with increased accuracy)
- Auto ISO 100–1600 / ISO manual 100–3200 / optionally expandable to ISO 12,800
- Tone priority mode
- Wireless transfers with optional wireless transmitter WFT-E3
- three adjustable modes of raw data storage: RAW (15 MPx), sRAW1 (7.1 MPx) and sRAW2 (3.7 MPx) ("s" = small)
- 7.62 cm LCD (640 × 480 pixels and anti-reflective film)
- 6.3 frames / second
- EOS Integrated Cleaning System
- 14-bit A / D converter
- Compatible with all EF / EF-S lenses and EX Speedlites flash units
The camera is the first model that was equipped with a DIGIC-4 processor by the manufacturer .
Extensions
GPS connection
A GPS device can be connected to the camera via the WFT-E3 data transmitter in order to record the exact location of each photo. The coordinates are then written directly into the Exif data of the image and saved with the image ( geo-imaging ).
Magic Lantern Video
The manufacturer-independent firmware extension Magic Lantern has also made it possible to make H.264 video recordings with the camera at 30 frames per second since 2013 , but without sound. The video option was not available with the manufacturer's firmware.
