The EOS 60D is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Canon , which was launched on the market in October 2010.
technical features
The camera has a 17.9 megapixel - CMOS sensor in APS-C format. The exposure index can be selected in the range from ISO 100 to 6400 in third f-stops and can be expanded to 12,800 (H) if necessary. The images can be saved on SD / SDHC and SDXC cards.
The camera has a film mode and offers the option of creating video clips in full HD resolution with 24 or 25 frames per second. With a reduced resolution in 720p format, 50 frames per second can be recorded in H.264 format. Memory cards with a relatively high write speed are recommended for creating videos, as recording is automatically paused when the internal buffer memory is full. By using an SDHC card of speed class 10 , recordings up to the internal limit of 29:59 minutes are possible.
The camera has wireless flash control that can be used to trigger flash units from the in-house Speedlite series. The signaling is done by the fold-out flash light, whereby the photographer can choose whether this should only be used to control the external flash or additionally to flash the scenery.
The device also has an integrated image processing system, with which the photos taken can be changed within the camera. The subsequent conversion of RAW images into JPEG is also possible inside the camera.
The device is the manufacturer's first digital single-lens reflex camera to be equipped with a rotatable and swiveling monitor ("display"). The camera has a 4-way toggle switch that is embedded in the rotary wheel. The other control buttons are on the right side of the display so that it can be opened to the left.
The camera also has the following features:
- 9 AF cross-type sensors (the center cross-type sensor works with greater accuracy on lenses with at least 2.8 aperture)
- Auto-ISO (100–6400) can be limited, ISO 100–6400 (in thirds or whole steps) can be extended to H: 12,800
- Video recording function
- manual control of the sound recording
- rotatable and swiveling 7.62 cm (3.0 inch) "clear view TFT display", aspect ratio 3: 2, 720 × 480 pixels (345,600 pixels), 288 ppi; For marketing reasons, the three times as large number of subpixels of around 1,040,000 (due to the RGB composition) is usually given.
- Live view mode
- 5.3 frames / s
- Housing made of aluminum alloy and polycarbonate reinforced with fiberglass
- built-in flash
- wireless flash control
- Exposure time adjustable by means of a shutter release as a separate program
- digital spirit level
- EOS Integrated Cleaning System
- Compatible with EF and EF-S lenses
- DIGIC-4 processor
Firmware
The current firmware 1.1.2 was released by the manufacturer on November 14, 2016 and includes the following bug fixes: Fixes a problem that occurs when the camera is equipped with the EF-S 18-135mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS USM or EF 70 lens -300mm f / 4-5.6 IS II USM is used and no correction will be made even if the lens offset correction is set to “Enable”.
The firmware 1.1.1 was published by the manufacturer on June 15, 2012. In addition to minor errors, this fixes a problem with the serial number display in the Exif data .
The manufacturer-independent firmware extension Magic Lantern has also been adapted by a third party for the EOS 60D model . The current version of Magic Lantern extends the range of functions of the camera, among other things, with user-defined crop marks , a "zebra mode" to identify overexposed areas before the recording, as well as " Follow Focus ", " HDR bracketing" and "Intervalometer", a software timer.
Model variant EOS 60Da
The EOS 60Da model is a special version of the camera designed for astrophotography . It has a modified low-pass filter which, by attenuating the higher frequency ranges, better emphasizes the wavelength range around the alpha line of hydrogen ( H α, Fraunhofer line ) , which is important for astronomical observations .
The model was launched in late April 2012.
