Career

society

Klem began his active career as a football player in 1998 in the youth department of GSV Wacker in the Styrian capital Graz. There he went through various youth play classes until 2001, before he switched to the offspring of the traditional Styrian club SK Sturm Graz as a cooperation player in mid-February 2001 . He performed well, so that after the cooperation period in July 2002 he was permanently accepted by Sturm Graz in their youth department.

During the 2005/06 season , the more defensive Klem scored four goals in 21 youth games. In the following season he was in 14 matches and scored one goal. After Klem presented himself well in the U-19 team of the club and came in seven games of the Toto- sponsored U-19 youth league in the 2007/08 season and scored two goals, he made his first appearances for the amateur team the Grazer with play in the third class regional league middle.

Klem made his team debut for the Sturm Amateure on August 3, 2007 when he came on for Jakob Jantscher in the 72nd minute of the 3-1 home win over Union St. Florian . At the same time, the young midfielder also played in six games for the U-19 team in the same season (2007) and said goodbye to youth football with a single game in 2008.

Already in his first season, the native of Graz began to establish himself in the team and only made short appearances in 18 championship appearances and one goal at the beginning, which subsequently developed into longer and longer appearances. He scored the first goal for the amateur team on September 14, 2007 in a 1-1 home draw against the amateur team of FC Carinthia , when he made the opening goal for his team in the 36th minute. Klem was also an integral part of the Sturm Amateure team during the 2008/09 season and scored one goal in 23 league games.

The 2009/10 season began with a similarly successful start , in which he has so far scored one goal in nine championship games. He was also in action for the team in the 2009/10 ÖFB Cup , where he was eliminated in the 2nd round of the competition after a 2-1 defeat against SV Ried , who played two classes higher .

After Klem was already in the squad of the professional team in the Bundesliga for the 2008/09 season, but was not used, he was brought back to the expanded squad for the 2009/10 season. On November 21, 2009 he finally made his team, professional and league debut when he came into play for his ex-amateur team-mate Jakob Jantscher in the 87th minute of the 2-0 home defeat against SV Ried. In 2010/11 he was Austrian football champion with 18 appearances.

In the summer of 2016, he moved to league rivals Wolfsberger AC , where he signed a contract that was valid until June 2018. He left the WAC after the 2017/18 season.

In August 2018 he moved to the second division club SV Lafnitz . After half a year at Lafnitz, he moved to Bundesliga club FC Wacker Innsbruck in January 2019 . With Wacker, he had to relegate from the Bundesliga in 2019. After relegation, he moved to Bundesliga club TSV Hartberg for the 2019/20 season , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2021.

National team

Klem began his national team career for the Austrian U-16 team, with which he completed three national matches. From 2007 he was in the squad of Austria's U-17 team , for which he made his debut at the end of April in a friendly international match against Hungary's U-17s. In the game, he was substituted on in the 41st minute for the then youth player of FC Admira Wacker Mödling Daniel Mihaly, who is now active in lower-class football. After ten U-17 national games, as well as two goals, Klem came to Austria's U-19 team in 2008 after simply jumping over the U-18 team . On March 27, 2009 he was nominated by U-19 team boss Andreas Heraf for the elite round of qualifying for the U-19 European Championship 2009 .

On April 1, 2009, he finally made his team debut when he played the full game in the 2-0 away win over the Belgian U-19 team. After eight games and three goals, the defensive midfielder was appointed to the Austrian U-21 team for the first time on November 6, 2009 by Andreas Herzog .

After he had just recently simply skipped the U-18 team, he managed to leave the U-20 team behind and join the U-21 team straight away. The young midfielder finally made his team debut on November 18, 2009 in a 4-0 victory over a severely weakened Azerbaijani U-21 national team , but acting in defense . During the game he was in action for the full 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
