Canton of Colmar-Sud

The Canton of Colmar-Sud was 2015 a French constituency in Arrondissement of Colmar , in the Haut-Rhin and the region Alsace .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then the "District of Colmar". With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Colmar. From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of the Colmar district at that time . On June 28, 1919, the canton first became part of the then arrondissements of Colmar-Ville and Colmar-Campagne, which were combined to form the Arrondissement of Colmar in 1934. On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved.

The canton bordered in the north with the canton Colmar-Nord , in the east with the canton Andolsheim , in the southeast with the canton Neuf-Brisach , in the south with the canton Ensisheim in the arrondissement Guebwiller and in the west with the canton Wintzenheim and the canton Kaysersberg in Arrondissement of Ribeauvillé .

The canton consisted of two municipalities (residents 1999):

  • Colmar (40,680 in the canton of Colmar-Sud; Colmar was divided into two cantons, this is the most populous part of the city)
  • Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine (2121)
