The district of Conchucos is located in the province of Pallasca in the Ancash region in central western Peru . The district was established on December 16, 1918. It has an area of ​​579 km². At the 2017 census, there were 7,825 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 7531, in 2007 8027. The administrative seat is the eponymous town of Conchucos, 3180  m high, with 3196 inhabitants (as of 2017). Conchucos is located 22 km northeast of the provincial capital Cabana .

Geographical location

The district of Conchucos is located in the south-east of the province of Pallasca. It has a longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE-direction of about 38 km. The district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It extends from the 5000  m high northern foothills of the Cordillera Blanca in the southwest to the Río Marañón in the east. An approximately 20 km long western section of the Río Marañón between the confluences of the Río Mayas and Río Llamara belongs to the district. The western part of the district is drained via the Río Conchucos to the Río Tablachaca to the northwest. The continental watershed runs roughly in the middle in a north-south direction .

The district of Conchucos borders in the southwest with the districts Cabana and Huandoval , in the northwest with the district Lacabamba , in the north with the district Pampas , in the east with the district Chillia ( province Pataz ) and in the south with the districts Acobamba , Chingalpo , Ragash (all three in Sihuas Province ) and Cusca ( Corongo Province ).
