Conrad Hölling (also: Conrad Hoelling ; * around 1651; † March 21, 1720 in the Calenberger Neustadt in front of Hanover ) was a ducal Braunschweig-Lüneburg stone and iron cutter and electoral Hanoverian and Royal British court goldsmith and jeweler as well as merchant , deacon and Church leader .

Life

Conrad Hölling was born a few years after the end of the Thirty Years War around 1651 as the son of the same name merchant and merchant Conrad Hölling and the ducal court jeweler Cord Hölling (1604–1656) and Maria Meineking or Maria Meinekings, daughter of the mayor of Neustadt. A relief of the family can be found in the family tombstone created by the sculptor of the Leibnizhaus , Peter Köster , near the south portal of the Neustädter Hof- und Stadtkirche St. Johannis of the Calenberger Neustadt .

Hölling was already a citizen and established goldsmith in Hanover as well as a duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg's bestallter stone and iron cutter in cell when he married Fraulein Anna Dorothea von der Lippe on August 21, 1677 in the Neustädter Hof- und Stadtkirche St. Johannis , Daughter of the "castle and merchant alhier", Ludewig von der Lippe. Between 1678 and 1681 the couple had six children baptized , most of whom died early, but one daughter was beyond childhood and the sixth child, the son born in 1687, later theologian and superintendent Johann Conrad Stephan Hoelling . The couple had a total of 13 children, including their daughter Anna Maria Hölling, who married the Electoral Medalist Ehrenreich Hannibal on May 12, 1707 . Another daughter married the court gold worker Alexander Heinrich Diester .

Meanwhile, Conrad Hölling had been referred to as a goldsmith as well as Höker and Krüger in 1689 at the age of 38 - he lived in a house on " Calenbergstrasse " at the time . His staff included the apprentices Christian Froböhse and Carl Junge and his journeyman Heinrich Uchtemann.

From 1706/1707 Hölling worked on various works, including a gilded “toilet”, with the Celle court goldsmith Lewin Dedeke . Since the same time, Hölling as the electoral court goldsmith received an annual salary of 40 Reichstalers . In 1707 he was also referred to as the "resident, citizen [... and] premier deacon of the Hof- und St. Johanniskirche Hannover-Neustadt". After the beginning of the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover , Hölling was finally known in 1714 as a “noble citizen and trader, also Kgl. Great Britain Court gold worker, also premier head of the Kgl. Hof- und S. Johanniskirche “.

After Hölling's death on March 21, 1720, his son Johann Conrad Stephan Hölling wrote the funeral speech that was printed in Hanover in the same year and has been preserved in the Göttingen University Library . The deceased's salary was awarded to his widow on April 23, 1720, who had the work in the court carried out by her son Gabriel Hölling, who was a goldsmith, in 1721 and 1722 .
