Cortez is a census-designated place (CDP) in Manatee County in the US state of Florida with 4241 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Cortez is right between the cities of Bradenton and Bradenton Beach on the Gulf of Mexico . The CDP is crossed by Florida State Road 684 and is located approximately 70 km south of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4241 inhabitants were distributed over 3472 households. The population density was 744.0 inh / km². 97.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.7% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 0.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.6% to several ethnic groups. 2.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 8.8% of all households and people aged 65 or over lived in 60.9% of all households. 59.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.86 people and the average family size was 2.29 people.

8.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 8.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 58.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 64 years. 48.1% of the population were male and 51.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 49,392, with 10.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 97.84% of the population and Spanish spoke 2.16%.

On March 16, 1995, the Cortez Historic District was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
