Dürnhof near Zwettl Abbey

The Dürnhof in the municipality of Zwettl-Niederösterreich is a former grangie of the Cistercian monastery Zwettl . The farm was built around 1200 on a hill north of the city of Zwettl and in 1210 in a document from Pope Innocent III. First mentioned as macra curia under the name "Durrenhove". Until the expropriation by the German Wehrmacht in the course of the establishment of the Döllersheim military training area in 1938, it served as one of the most important agricultural branches of the monastery. From 1945 to 1947 it was used as a prison camp for the Red Army , then administered by the USIA and later handed over to the Republic of Austria. From 1947 until the general renovation in 1976, the Dürnhof remained unused and left to decay. From 1984 to 2005 it housed the "Museum for Medical Meteorology", which dealt with human biometeorology . In the summer of 2003 the listed manor was sold to a private person. Since a further renovation in 2005, it has been used as a location for cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions.
