Radio SRF Virus is a program of Swiss Radio and Television (SRF), a branch of SRG SSR . Before December 16, 2012, the station was called DRS Virus. It is designed as a "cultural channel for young audiences". The program cannot be received via VHF , but only via cable , DAB + in German-speaking Switzerland, Europe-wide via satellite and worldwide as a live stream internet radio . In addition, the multi-channel network operated by SRF has a YouTube channel accompanying the program called SRF Virus .
program
Since the station's relaunch (September 1, 2009), SRF Virus has clearly differentiated itself from the program of Radio SRF 3 and relies on music outside the mainstream . Current alternative rock and pop titles dominate strongly, followed by emerging styles around rap , electro and rock, also all current titles. As a rule, the music selection does not go any further than the 2000s .
SRF Virus also relies heavily on social media and audience interaction. The moderation is part of the online community , always in bimedial dialogue with it, and integrates this dialogue with artists and audience into the current program. For this purpose u. a. an app as well as accounts on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram are used.
A live moderated program is broadcast on weekdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bounce will be broadcast on Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. It is dedicated to hip hop. On Friday between 7 and 8 p.m. Ampère, the program for electronic music, will be broadcast.
SRF Virus offers most music specials completely as podcasts for download.
history
On 17 February 1999, the new youth radio station received from the Federal Council , the concession and on 20 November 1999 launched its broadcasts under the name VIRUS, then with principal focus on popular rock and electro. The transmitter was originally planned under the name DRS 4 . François Mürner was the program manager from the start of broadcasting until 2003 , who was also largely responsible for the concept and implementation.
From August 2 to August 31, 2003, Virus was the only exception in the station's history to have a temporary FM frequency that enabled it to broadcast live from the 12th Street Parade on August 9.
Because of its poor reach, Virus had poor audience ratings . Among other things, a restructuring was necessary (in January 2006), through which hip-hop and rhythm and blues were played more and more. At the same time, they reacted to the changed habits of the young audience in terms of media consumption: more time on the Internet, less radio, increased consumption of MP3.
Due to the reorganization of the logos of all DRS radio stations, Virus was called DRS virus.ch from 2007 . In addition to the innovation that DRS and the .ch have joined, the i-dot on the virus logo has also been repositioned. With the old logo it was always in the middle of the lettering (above the "r"), it can now be seen quite normally above the "i".
In 2007 and 2009 Virus was named Radio of the Year in Switzerland. On the Swiss RadioDay - the annual meeting of the Swiss media industry - in Zurich , the award "Radio of the year" was ceremoniously presented to Virus.
The radio was originally based in Basel . In August 2009, DRS Virus moved to the radio studio in Zurich and, with the move to Zurich, also realigned itself as a broadcaster for music outside the mainstream and pop culture. The station's claim is the program: «Radio. But different".
