The eye of evil (original title: L'œil du malin) is a psychological thriller from 1962 by Claude Chabrol , who also wrote the screenplay for the black and white film. The film premiered in France on May 2, 1962. The thriller was released in Germany on June 15, 1962.

The journalist Albin Mercier is sent to southern Germany for a report . There he met the novelist Andreas Hartmann and his wife Hélène. He finds out that she is cheating on her husband. In the hope of being able to benefit from it, he tells Hélène about his knowledge.

The film was shot in Munich in September and October 1961 .
