Dajana Oleksandriwna Jastremska ( Ukrainian Даяна Олександрівна Ястремська ; born May 15, 2000 in Odessa ) is a Ukrainian tennis player .

Career

Jastremska, who started playing tennis at the age of five, reached sixth place in the junior tennis world rankings as a junior and triumphed in 2016 alongside Panna Udvardy in the doubles competition of the Porto Alegre Junior Championships . In the same year she reached the final at the junior singles competition at Wimbledon , in which she had to admit defeat to Anastassija Potapova .

Jastremska gained her first experience on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour in 2015 and won her first professional title in a tournament in the $ 25,000 category in Campinas in 2016 . In Tashkent she made her debut on the WTA Tour after receiving a wildcard from the organizers , but lost to Kurumi Nara at the start . In 2017 she won her biggest title to date in a tournament of the $ 60,000 tournament in Dunakeszi and then advanced to the final at the $ 100,000 tournament in St. Petersburg , in which she was defeated by Belinda Bencic

At the beginning of 2018, Jastremska competed for the first time in the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open and was eliminated in the second round. Nevertheless, she ended 2019 for the first time in the top 30 in the ranking.

At the start of the 2020 season in Adelaide , Jastremska advanced to her first final at a tournament in the Premier category after defeating Aryna Sabalenka , but had to admit defeat to world number one Ashleigh Barty . In the following week she achieved her highest world ranking position to date with 21st place. Before the corona-related end of the season, she was able to record her second top 10 win in the second round of Doha against the Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin before losing to Garbiñe Muguruza in the round of 16 .

In 2019, Jastremska made her debut for the Ukrainian Fed Cup team in the 1: 2 defeat against Sweden . Since then she has played five singles and one doubles for her country, all of which she has won.
