The Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport (HMdIS) is one of nine ministries in the state of Hesse . Since 1968 it has had its headquarters in a high-rise, originally built for the Wiesbaden Regional Council (closed in 1968), near the main train station of the state capital Wiesbaden . The current Minister of State is Peter Beuth ( CDU ). The original name of the ministry in the first decades after the founding of the state of Hesse was The Hessian Minister of the Interior .
tasks
The tasks of the ministry are:
- Fundamental questions of the general administrative and authority organization, in particular administrative automation ( e-government ) and data protection ,
- Implementation of military legislation, general elections and votes, citizenship and civil status
- defense of Constitution
- Police law and police work
- Local affairs and supervision
- Immigration law and asylum procedure
- Sport and leisure
Subordinate authorities
Immediately subordinate authorities are the regional councils , the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Hesse, the Hessian University of police and administration , the Bureau of Engineering, Logistics and Management and the Hessian Landesfeuerwehrschule .
The following Hessian police authorities are subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior:
- Hessian State Criminal Police Office ,
- Hessian riot police headquarters,
- Police headquarters and the
- Hessian Police Academy
Since January 1, 2012, the Hessian payment office has also been subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior.
State supervision
The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the state supervision of the independent cities of Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden . The regional association FrankfurtRheinMain , the Landeswohlfahrtsverband Hessen and the Hessen administration school association are also subject to state supervision by the ministry .
The supplementary pension funds for state employees in Hesse (the municipal supplementary pension funds, the Kurhessen-Waldeck civil servant pension fund, the Nassau communal civil servant pension fund and the pension fund for civil servants in Darmstadt) are also supervised by the Ministry of the Interior.

The Minister of the Interior and for Sport as the head of the authority is represented by State Secretary Stefan Heck . Until 2013, the ministry also had a state secretary as an authorized representative for e-government and information technology in the state administration and as such a chief information officer . Maren Müller-Erichsen as the disability officer and Wilhelm Kanther as the regional election supervisor take responsibility for their tasks.

Former building of the ministry
From 1955 to 1969, the Ministry of the Interior used the current building of the Ministry of Justice in Wiesbaden's Luisenstrasse, which was built from 1838 to 1843 as the seat of the entire Ministry of the Duchy of Nassau .
In 1968 the Ministry of the Interior moved into the new building on Friedrich-Ebert-Allee.
