German table tennis championship 2001

The 69th National German Individual Championships took place from March 2 to 4, 2001 in the sports hall in Böblingen .

Timo Boll became the German champion in men's singles . In the final he faced the eight-time winner Jörg Roßkopf . After falling 0-2 in sets, he turned the game around and won 3-2. This ended the Roßkopf era, for the next 19 years Timo Boll will dominate the field and in the end get 13 golds.

In the women's singles, Christina Fischer won the title by beating Elke Schall in the final . Nicole Struse had to cancel at short notice due to an injury, Qianhong Gotsch and Jing Tian-Zörner had announced early on that they did not want to take part in the championship.

Torben Wosik was able to defend his two titles from the previous year, namely in doubles with Peter Franz and in mixed with Elke Schall. For the ladies pair Irene Ivancan / Katrin Meyerhöfer it was the first title win at a German championship.

The individual competitions were held in three sets, the double competitions in two sets. A total of 4,000 spectators followed the action.
