The German Ice Hockey Cup was played in the 2002/03 season for the first time since 1996/97 by the German Ice Hockey Federation in cooperation with the German Ice Hockey League and the Ice Hockey Game Operating Company.

The first round was played from August 24th to 30th, 2002, the second round on September 24th and October 8th. The quarter-finals took place on October 22nd and 30th, the semi-finals on November 19 and December 10, before the cup winners were determined in the final on February 18, 2003 .

The 2nd round took place on September 24th and October 8th, 2002. The pairings were drawn by soccer goalkeeper Uwe Kamps on September 8th as part of an ice hockey derby between the DEG Metro Stars against the Kölner Haie .
