Dombach is the smallest district of Bad Camberg in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse .
Geographical location
Dombach is located in the eastern Hintertaunus , at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level , around four kilometers east of the core town of Bad Camberg. The district town of Limburg an der Lahn is located around 20 kilometers to the north-west.
The highest elevations in the district are the Stückelberg northeast of the place with 510 meters above sea level and the Salzlackerkopf with 465 meters above sea level. The Dombach flows through the village, which rises above the village between the Taunus heights and flows down through the Dombachtal towards Schwickershausen and flows into the Emsbach in Erbach .
Dombach lies in a zone of agricultural land stretching from northwest to southeast. At the edges of the district the terrain rises and is covered with forest. The district is enclosed in the west and north by the core town of Bad Camberg, borders in the east on Riedelbach and thus on the Hochtaunuskreis and in the south on Würges .
Geologically, the area is dominated by slate- containing greywacke with quartz veins.
history
Dombach was first mentioned in a document in 1281. This involved a sale of goods by Hermann von Duninbach together with a Trutmann von Erbach to the Gnadenthal monastery . The name of the place is also passed down as "Dodenbach", which probably goes back to an elevation called "Totenkopf", from which the Dombach rises.
In addition to the church, the old town hall is the defining building of the place. It was first mentioned in 1757, and in 1762 the clock tower was added. The half-timbered building initially served as a school house with a teacher's apartment and is therefore also called "old school". From 1897, when a new school building was completed, until 1970 it was the place of work for the mayor of Dombach. In 1980 the old town hall was renovated.
The older church of St. Wendelin was built in 1477. Since 1840 Dombach has formed a parish together with Schwickershausen. From 1873 to 1876 a new church was built on the site of the old church. On February 13, 1940, this parish church burned down to the outer walls. The rebuilt church was consecrated at Easter 1941.
Another historic building is the rectory opposite the church , which was built between 1865 and 1866 . The pastor and poet Franz Alfred Muth lived there from 1871 until his death on November 3rd, 1890 , whose grave is on the church wall.
In 1908 the village got its first water pipe , a year later the first telephone connection. In the Middle Ages, Dombach was located on an overland route from Bad Camberg into the Weiltal . Later, the connection to the Weil was no longer used and the spur road was only expanded back to Rod an der Weil in 1951.
Territorial reform
As part of the Hessian regional reform , the previously independent municipality of Dombach was incorporated into Bad Camberg on July 1, 1974 by state law .
