Dominik Wydra (born March 21, 1994 in Vienna ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder .

Career

Wydra's parents are from Poland ; he himself was born in Vienna. He began his career at SC Wiener Viktoria , from where he moved to the Austrian record champions SK Rapid Wien after two years . Until 2011, the defensive midfielder went through Rapid's youth departments. In the 2010/11 season he was pulled up to the SK Rapid amateur team in the Regionalliga Ost. He made his debut on April 25, 2011 in the game against SV Schwechat , when he was substituted on for Belarusian Andrej Lebedseu in the 63rd minute . On his debut, he received a yellow card; the game was lost 1: 2. Wydra came on five more appearances this season. In his second season with the amateurs of SK Rapid he was a regular player; he played 23 times and scored five goals. He scored his first goal in the game against FC Sollenau on August 12, 2011.

From the coach of the fighting team Peter Schöttel he was appointed to the first team's squad together with Lukas Grozurek at the age of 17 during the winter break of the 2011/12 season. Wydra came on March 21, 2012 in the game against Kapfenberger SV to his debut in the top Austrian league when he came on in the final minute for captain Steffen Hofmann . The game in the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium was won 3-0 against the relegated team. Wydra came in this Bundesliga season on another use, Rapid was runner-up. In the fall season of the 2012/13 season he made his debut on November 8, 2012 in the Europa League . In the 3-0 away defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , he was on the pitch for the entire season. Appearances against Rosenborg Trondheim and Metalist Charkiw followed. In addition to missions in the fighting team, Wydra also continued to play for the amateurs.

During the 2015 summer break, Wydra moved to the German second division club SC Paderborn 07 . He signed a three-year contract. After SC Paderborn was relegated to the second division, Wydra moved to VfL Bochum in the 2016/17 season , where he played 13 second division games.

On July 5, 2017, Wydra moved to league rivals FC Erzgebirge Aue , where he signed a two-year contract. After 56 appearances in the second division for Aue, he left the club after the 2019/20 season. He then moved to second division Eintracht Braunschweig in July 2020 , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2022.

National team

Wydra played for the ÖFB in the U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19. He was the team captain of the Austrian U-21 team.

In October 2017, he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time .
