Benjamin Kessel (born October 1, 1987 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German soccer player . He is under contract with Eintracht Braunschweig .

Career

Kessel began his career in 2006 in the Regionalliga Süd in the second team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In the following season he moved to the upper division Wormatia Worms , for which he also completed a game in the DFB Cup . In 2008 he moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 , for whose second team he completed two seasons in the Regionalliga West .

For the 2010/11 season Kessel was signed by the third division club Eintracht Braunschweig , became champions with him and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . After 14 league games in the first half of the 2011/12 season, he missed the entire second half of the season because of a torn muscle in his thigh; Nevertheless, the club extended his contract until 2013. In his third season, he rose with Eintracht Braunschweig in second in the Bundesliga; Kessel's contract period was again extended to 2015. On August 31, 2013 (4th matchday) he made his 90-minute debut in the 4-0 defeat in the away game against Hamburger SV . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on January 31, 2014 (19th matchday) in a 2-1 defeat in the home game against Borussia Dortmund with the goal to make it 1-1 in the 54th minute. Overall, Kessel scored two goals in 20 Bundesliga games in the 2013/14 season . At the end of the season, Eintracht Braunschweig rose again to the 2nd division. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Kessel was not used, but then played every game for the entire season, apart from a yellow card suspension on matchday 15 and a substitution after 60 minutes on matchday 24 in the game against FC St. Pauli .

For the 2015/16 season he moved to 1. FC Union Berlin on a free transfer . His contract ran until June 30, 2017. For the 2017/18 season he joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer and received a two-year contract. After his contract became invalid with the relegation of the FCK to the 3rd division, Kessel moved to the regional division 1. FC Saarbrücken in the summer of 2018 . After six months he left the FCS and was signed again by the third division club Eintracht Braunschweig in early January 2019 . In his first season since his return, he just kept the class with the team, after the 2019/20 season he rose again to the 2nd division.

Kessel is married and has had a son since December 2018.
