Bernd Nehrig (born September 28, 1986 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German football player . The striker , who became German A-Junior champions with the offspring of VfB Stuttgart , has been under contract with Eintracht Braunschweig since the beginning of January 2019 .
Career
Nehrig began playing football at TV Steinheim as a goalkeeper before moving to the junior division of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart in 1998. With the B-youth team of the Swabian club, meanwhile active as a field player, he reached the final of the German championship in 2003 , which was lost to the offspring of Hertha BSC . Two years later he was in the final with the VfB A-Youth , which was won 1-0 against the VfL Bochum junior team . In 2005 he also took part in the Rheinpokal with the team of the Württemberg Football Association . At the same time, he developed into a young national player and from 2001 went through almost all of the junior selections of the German Football Association .
In the summer of 2005, Nehrig moved up to the squad of the second team at VfB Stuttgart. As an amateur player who qualified was a car salesman for the reserve of the club in the Regionalliga Süd 2 draw against eventual runner-up and advanced: a 2 - directly in his first race in the men's field and could TuS Koblenz on the opening day of the 2005/06 season, the third-class league - enter it into the list of goalscorers. As a result, he established himself alongside midfielder Peter Perchtold, who came from 1. SC Feucht , and attackers Danny Galm and Tobias Weis on the team's offensive. By the end of the season he scored 15 goals, including a "double" against Eintracht Trier and 1. FC Eschborn .
In his second season, Nehrig moved up, not least because of his performance in the first year with the VfB reserve team, in the extended squad of the Bundesliga team . Thus, he was only used irregularly in the second substitution and celebrated his professional debut on August 26, 2006 when he lost the 1: 3 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the 79th minute with the intermediate result of 1: 2 from coach Armin Veh was substituted on for the defensive player Ludovic Magnin to - ultimately in vain - to create the turnaround. After he had to pause due to a torn ligament in the course of the season, he left the future German champions after this only Bundesliga assignment in the spring of 2007 on loan to gain practice with the second division team of SpVgg Unterhaching, which was in the relegation battle . However, he was only used there three times and could not prevent the former Bundesliga club from relegating to the third division. He was also used once in the league team, where he scored a goal.
In the summer of 2007, Nehrig moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, where he signed a contract dated until 2010. In his first competitive game for his new employer, he scored two goals in the first round of the DFB Cup in a 3-1 away win in the stadium at Böllenfalltor against SV Darmstadt 98 . With six goals over the course of the season, he placed behind Stefan Reisinger and Martin Lanig level with Aleksandar Kotuljac as the third-best goalscorer in the team supervised by Bruno Labbadia . The negative highlight of the season was his expulsion in the 1-0 defeat by FC Carl Zeiss Jena on matchday 25, when he was expelled from the field after a serious foul and had to pause three games. In preparation for the 2008/09 season he injured his knee in a friendly against AEK Athens . In the appearance in the first round of the cup against Kickers Offenbach , he was able to participate again, but like his teammates he remained without a goal and was eliminated directly from the competition after a goal by Benjamin Baier .
In the 2009/10 DFB Cup , Bernd Nehrig played a key role in ensuring that his former club VfB Stuttgart was eliminated from the DFB Cup. He scored the decisive 1-0 in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup and thus shot SpVgg Greuther Fürth into the quarter-finals. this year he was also used once in the junior team in the Regionalliga Süd . In 2012 he achieved promotion to the Bundesliga with the Fürth team .
In April 2012, Nehrig extended his contract with Fürth until June 30, 2014. At the end of April 2013, however, it was announced that he was leaving SpVgg early at the end of the 2012/13 season and switched to FC St. Pauli , where he initially signed a contract until June 30, 2016 and ultimately stayed until the end of 2018.
At the beginning of January 2019, Nehrig switched to the relegation-threatened third division club Eintracht Braunschweig , with whom he received a contract with a term until June 30, 2021. He held the class with the unity that was tenth in the table. In preparation for the following season, the new head coach Christian Flüthmann appointed the midfielder as team captain. He had already represented his resigned predecessor Stephan Fürstner in a few games . At the end of the 2019/20 season, he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.
