Edward J. Ward (born November 10, 1969 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 278 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Calgary Flames , Atlanta Thrashers , Mighty Ducks of, among others, between 1987 and 2002 Anaheim and New Jersey Devils played in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger .
Career
Ward spent his junior years initially in the Alberta Junior Hockey League until 1987 , from where he eventually moved to Northern Michigan University . There he played the following four years parallel to his studies for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During the four-year membership in the team, he won the division title in 1989 and 1991, as well as the national college championship of the NCAA in 1991 .
After the right winger had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the sixth round in 108th place by the Nordiques de Québec from the National Hockey League , Ward moved in the summer of 1991 to the professional field. There he came in his first year as a professional for the Greensboro Monarchs in the East Coast Hockey League and the Halifax Citadels in the American Hockey League - both farm teams of the Nordiques - used. The following year, in which he made his debut for the Nordiques de Québec in the NHL, he was mainly active for their new cooperation partner Cornwall Aces . Ward was also part of their squad during the lockout in the 1994/95 NHL season . Towards the end of the season, the striker was transferred to the Calgary Flames in exchange for François Groleau .
The Canadian was part of the Flames' squad for the following four seasons, in which he was also repeatedly involved in the lower-class leagues, almost without reservation until the end of the 1998/99 season . Since Ward was not protected by the Flames before the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft , the newly formed Atlanta Thrashers chose him in the same. Ward came in the course of the game year to 44 games for the Thrashers, before he made in March 2000 for a seven-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . Ward only played eight games for the Mighty Ducks. Against the renewed exchange of a seven-round suffrage in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, he moved to the New Jersey Devils in June 2000 .
With the Devils, the attacker did not get beyond the status of the supplementary player and only completed four missions for New Jersey. Instead, he spent most of the season in the AHL with the Albany River Rats . Ward spent his last professional season in the 2001/02 season with Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien . At the age of 32, Ward finally ended his active career after the game year.
