Ede Mihály (born January 11, 1986 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing at ASC Corona 2010 Brașov in the Romanian ice hockey league since 2017 .

Career

Club

Ede Mihály, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career in the youth department of the HK Ružinov 99 Bratislava in the Slovak capital, where he ran through the U18 and U20 teams. In 2006 he returned to his hometown and joined the HC Csíkszereda , for which he was first on the ice in the Hungarian ice hockey league and in 2008/09 in the MOL league and won the cup competition in 2008 . Despite the victory in the MOL league, the club had to be dissolved in 2009 for financial reasons and Mihály moved to local rivals HSC Csíkszereda . With the traditional Szekler club he won the Romanian championship title in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 . In 2010 and 2011 he also won the Romanian cup competition with his club. He won the MOL league with his club in 2011. Towards the end of the 2014/15 season he moved to CSM Dunărea Galați , with whom he was again Romanian champion, but returned to HSC Csíkszereda for the new season. In 2016/17 he is under contract for the second time at CSM Dunărea Galați. He then joined the league rivals ASC Corona 2010 Brașov .

International

Mihály plays internationally in contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: He played in Division II of the U-18 World Championship in 2003 , as well as in Division I of this age group a year later . He took part in the U20 World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 and 2006 in Division II.

Mihály made his debut in the men's national team in November 2004 when qualifying for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin . He was also on the ice for his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the Games in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 . At World Championships he was in Division II in 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 , 2015 , when he was the top scorer of the tournament together with the Belgian Mitch Morgan , and in 2017 , when he was both top scorer and together with the Serb Marko Sretović and the Belgian Mitch Morgan was the top scorer of the tournament, as well as in Division I in 2012 , 2013 , 2014 and 2016 in the Romanians' squad.
