The final round of the German team championship in chess in 1961 took place from December 8 to 10, 1961 in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The Berlin SG 1827 Eckbauer , the railway chess club Turm Köln , the Munich Chess Club from 1836 and the SK Palamedes Hamburg competed in the final of the 15th West German team championship . A round-robin tournament was held. Willi Fohl was the tournament director.
The two preliminary rounds
In 1961 only two preliminary rounds (south and north) were held for the German team championship.

In Freiburg im Breisgau in 1836 Munich and the Berlin SG Eckbauer prevailed, ahead of the Freiburg Chess Club and the Rosenheim Chess Club.
