The first team of FC Langenfeld played from 1982 to 2010 without interruption in the 1st Badminton Bundesliga . This is the longest run of all current teams in the 1st Bundesliga. The greatest successes were the championship titles in 1989 and 2004. In the last year mentioned, the FCL defeated the 1. BC Beuel in the final. In addition, there are three runners-up championships in 1990, 1994 and 2007 and eight participations in the play-off round up to 2007. The club also has four other teams that participate in league play (regional league, association league, district class, district class). In the youth field, the FCL is one of the most successful clubs in Germany. Four youth teams (most recently German champions 2007), two student teams (most recently German champions 2004) and a team for Bambini take part in the game. Olympians Björn Joppien and Oliver Pongratz came from the Langenfeld club's offspring .

The FCL also celebrated regular successes at the tournaments for the German championships. In addition to numerous single and double titles in the adult sector (including Björn Joppien in singles from 2000 to 2004, 2006 and 2007), the club's youngsters are also very successful. At the youth championships in 2007, Fabienne Deprez, who was only 14 at the time, won three titles and already reached third place in the U19 age group, where she held her own against significantly older players.

In the play-off final of the 2006/07 season, FCL won their first game away against defending champions 1. BC Bischmisheim 5: 3. The second leg in their own hall was then no longer played when the score was 5: 2 for Bischmisheim, as the FCL could no longer win the series.

Björn Joppien ensured the club's greatest international successes to date at the 1999 European Junior Championships with two individual and team titles.

In 2008 and 2009, the FCL was third in the Bundesliga. When Björn Joppien ended his badminton career due to an injury , the team of FC Langenfeld also withdrew from the 1st Bundesliga on February 22, 2010 and entered the regional league.

In 2015, the club made it back to the 1st Bundesliga, but was withdrawn prematurely in the 2016/17 season.
