Fabio Romano
Fabio Romano (* 1967 in Palermo ) is an Italian pianist living in Munich .
Life
Romano completed his first training at the “Vincenzo Bellini” Conservatory in Palermo , where he studied piano with Gaetano Cellizza and composition with Eliodoro Sollima. In 1986, when he was only 19, he became a piano lecturer at this institute himself. He later left Palermo and continued his education at the Munich University of Music and Theater with Franz Massinger (1992–94) and Gerhard Oppitz (1994–98). Today Romano is a piano lecturer at the University of Music and Theater in Munich.
In 2008, he took part in the Svyatoslav Richter Competition in Moscow , where he won the 4th prize for a program that combined the avant-garde , modern, romantic and classical .
He has performed with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Museum Orchestra , the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen , the Bavarian State Opera , the Korean Chamber Ensemble, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the via-nova-chor Munich , made music with the conductors Dmitri Liss , Paolo Carignani , Markus Poschner, Roberto Paternostro , Min Kim, Max Frey (with the madrigal choir of the University of Music and Theater Munich ), Kurt Suttner and gave concerts in the chamber music field with Gösta Winbergh , Giovanni Sollima , Klaus Becker, Teodora Campagnaro, H. D. Klaus, Harald Feller and the Rachmaninov Quartet.
His work focuses on modern to contemporary music: An example of this is his participation as a pianist and actor in the world premiere of Jörn Arnecke's short opera “Wiedersehen” with the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera as part of the Zurich and Munich Festival .
He has also recorded works by John Cage , Igor Stravinsky , Duke Ellington , Leonard Bernstein , Eliodoro Sollima, Fritz Schieri, Jörg Widmann and Giovanni Sollima (who composed the piano piece “In Si” for Fabio Romano) for radio stations in Italy and Germany.
In 2001 he held a piano masterclass at the invitation of the University of Suwon (Korea).
Radio author Wolf Loeckle dedicated a broadcast to him on Bayern 4 Klassik in December 2005 with the title “A Palermitaner in Munich”.
Journalist Tilman Urbach named him “Young Artist of the Year” in the December 2009 issue of Fono Forum . Quote: “The pianist Fabio Romano, who is dedicated to both new music and the classical repertoire. Serious and insistent. "
