Fascht e Familie is a Swiss sitcom . It was written by Charles Lewinsky and aired between 1994 and 1999 in five seasons of 20 episodes each Friday evening on SF 1 . In 1997, the first 40 episodes were dubbed in Standard German on the German private broadcaster Super RTL under the title Fast 'ne Familie .
The series was shot by the St. Gallen company Videcom in Sitterdorf in the canton of Thurgau . When recording, there was always an audience in the studio that had the task of laughing after every punch line . These "laughs" were recorded and were an integral part of the series.
action
When the real estate agent Rolf Aebersold tried once more to sell his aunt Martha's house without her knowledge, the ad erroneously ended up in the “Furnished rooms for rent” category. Later, Rolf is shocked to discover that his aunt has turned her house into a shared apartment .
In the episodes of Fascht e Familie, there is no specific theme that leads through all episodes. Always new problems of the subtenants are solved together, but this does not happen without unusual ideas and mix-ups. Rolf Aerbersold tries again and again to push his aunt to an old people's home so that he can capitalize on the house. The main location of the sitcom is the communal kitchen.
Relation to the topicality
In episode 17 (The Guru) a fictional sect is thematized, the head of which wants to deprive simple members like Aunt Martha of their fortune. This fact is reminiscent of the media presence of sects such as Fiat Lux and the Sun Templars at the time of the first broadcast .
In episode 63 (Quick-Mampf), Aunt Martha complains about a fast food restaurant and says it's no wonder that cattle go crazy when you make hamburgers like that out of them. She is alluding to the mad cow disease , which made headlines in Switzerland in the 1990s.
Geographical reference
In episode 51 (The Woman for Life), the address of the shared apartment can be seen on an envelope: Gartenstrasse 7, 9053 Teufen.
occupation
- «Aunt Martha» Aebersold ( Trudi Roth ), the house owner, has a great interest in esoteric theories and ideas. She has been collecting relevant books and items for years.
- Rolf Aebersold ( Andreas Matti ) is a dubious real estate agent who also plays a devious role as Martha's nephew (“Neveu”): He tries again and again to profit from Martha's naivete. (Rolf is the only one of the fixed figures that only appears irregularly.)
- Hans Meier ( Walter Andreas Müller ) is a waiter and amateur actor. He works in the finest restaurant in town.
- Flip ( Martin Schenkel , until the end of season 4) is a T-shirt painter and life artist who lets the other roommates feed him. However, Flip leaves the flat share to make more of his life and open a shop selling t-shirts.
- Vreni Hubacher ( Hanna Scheuring , up to episode 67) is a not very self-confident bank employee, always looking for love.
- Annekäthi Tobler ( Sandra Moser , from episode 68) is an established and down-to-earth midwife and dancer.
- Bruno Caduff ( Beat Marti , from season 5) is an honest young accountant and loves the game of chess more than anything. He dreams of becoming a radio host.

End of series
The beginning of the end of Fascht e Familie was when Hanna Scheuring left the series. When Martin Schenkel developed a brain tumor and had to be replaced, the sitcom lost its most popular character. The audience found it difficult to get used to the new composition of the main characters.
In 1999 the last episode was broadcast in which "Aunt Martha" voluntarily moves into a retirement home. However, the house does not belong to Rolf afterwards, as Rolf does not have the heart to throw out the rest of the flat share.
