history

The place was first mentioned in 1347 as Furbach (= "Feuerbach"). A first mention in 1076 as "Fuirbach" is not certain. The place name is interpreted as a brook of fire or flames, derived from the brook, colored red by iron ore mining, that flows through the place.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Fauerbach in 1830:

“Fauerbach (L. Bez. Nidda) evangel. Branch village; is 1 St. from Nidda, has 93 houses and 472 souls, all of which are Protestant. There is 1 church, 1 town hall and 106 residents belong to the peasant class and 9 are engaged in civil trade. The place appears in 1330 as a Palatinate fief. "

After the old district of Nidda was dissolved, Fauerbach was part of the Büdingen district from 1874 . As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities of Bad Salzhausen, Borsdorf, Fauerbach bei Nidda, Geiß-Nidda, Harb, Kohden, Michelnau, Ober-Lais, Ober-Schmitten, Ober-Widdersheim, Stornfels, merged on December 1, 1970 Ulfa, Unter-Schmitten, Wallernhausen and the city of Nidda to form the new city of Nidda. Since the district of Büdingen was also dissolved in 1972, the place has been in the Wetterau district ever since .
