Geographical location
The place is in the northern Wetterau , to the east of Nidda.
history
The place was mentioned as Michelenowa in 1187 in a deed of donation to the Order of St. John .
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Michelnau in 1830:
"Michelnau (L. Bez. Nidda) evangel. Branch village; is 1 ⁄ 2 St. from Nidda, has 33 houses and 185 inhabitants who are Protestant. There are 23 farmers and 8 craftsmen among the inhabitants. "
In 1905 the Protestant primary school was built.
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities of Bad Salzhausen, Borsdorf, Fauerbach bei Nidda, Geiß-Nidda, Harb, Kohden, Michelnau, Ober-Lais, Ober-Schmitten, Ober-Widdersheim, Stornfels, merged on December 1, 1970 Ulfa, Unter-Schmitten, Wallernhausen and the city of Nidda to form the new city of Nidda.

- There is a disused quarry in the village , in which the Michelnau slag basalt was mined from 1863 to the mid-1990s . It has been open to the public as a geotope as part of guided tours since 2010 .
