Felsenberg has been a cadastral municipality of Pölla in Lower Austria since January 1st, 1964 . with a base area of 527.98 hectares. In order to be able to create the Döllersheim military training area , the residents were evacuated from 1938 onwards .

history

The Breitstrasse village of Felsenberg was at the foot of the mountain of the same name, the summit of which, however, was only around 50 meters higher than the town.

Zwettl Abbey was just as wealthy here as the Heiligenkreuz Abbey in the second half of the 13th century , following a foundation by Otto von Purchartsdorf before 1171 . Hans von Neudegg and 1455 Wernhard Truchsess were enfeoffed with the estate located here in 1427, before the Greillenstein rule came in the 16th century .

Of the little castle that existed in Felsenberg, only a few walls and a tower existed around 1905, which had been adapted as a local chapel for the residents of the three small houses in the village . In 1905 this was demolished to make way for a new building for the local chapel.

Since 1629 the parish of Altpölla kept the church records for births and from 1638 also those for marriages and deaths. From 1784 the parish of Neupölla was responsible for it.

By April 1, 1939, the residents had to leave their 29 houses in Felsenberg so that the Allentsteig military training area could be created for the German Wehrmacht .

The incorporation of land belonging to the municipality of Felsenberg, which belongs to the Zwettl district, into the municipality of Röhrenbach , which belongs to the Horn district , led to a change in the common border between the two districts. The jurisdiction of the judicial districts also changed for the affected properties.

A combat exercise held between April 2 and 11, 2003 by the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade and the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt at the military training area with around 6,500 soldiers was called "Felsenberg 2003".
